This article will explain the clients all the information about Vietnam extension visa and renewal so that you can extend your stay permit in Vietnam without leaving the country.

Vietnam extension visa and renewal

1. How long you can stay in Vietnam will depend on the type of visa you currently have.

If you enter Vietnam with 15 days visa exemption you can extend your visa for a further 15 days, 1 month or 3 months. Kindly note that you can’t return again using a visa exemption within 30 days.
If your visa is 1 month visa you can get it extended for another 10 days, 1 month, 2 months or 3 months.
If your visa is 3 month visa you can get it extended for another 1 month, 2 months or 3 months.

How many time you can apply to extend your visa will depend on your current visa and duration for extension you did.

The procedure can take from 4 to10 days (not available on weekend and Public Holidays) depend on the duration for extension you want to apply for.

In this article, kindly be noted that:

1. If you entered Vietnam with Visa Exemptions, E-Visas or Tourist Visas from March 1, 2020, you will be eligible for “automatic stay permit extension” until August 31, 2020, and are allowed to exit Vietnam at any time until August 31 without following any stay permit extension procedure. It means that if you are in Vietnam under those visa categories, you entered the country on or after March 1, 2020 and your visa becomes expired before August 31, 2020, you can leave Vietnam after your visa expiry date, but by August 31, 2020, without penalty for overstaying.

This is very important to understand that it means you don’t have to extend your visa to EXIT Vietnam by August 31, 2020. However, if you intend to stay in Vietnam after August 31, 2020, then you do need a visa extension.

2. If you entered BEFORE March 1, 2020, you will be eligible for the same policy if you show either of the following documents:

A certification by your diplomatic mission in Vietnam through an official Diplomatic Note stating that you are stuck in Vietnam due to Covid 19 (attached with a translation in Vietnamese);

Documents issued by the Vietnamese authorities certifying that you have undergone quarantine or treatment for COVID-19 or are stuck here due to reasons beyond your control.

You are required to show those documents when exiting Vietnam to ensure no charge for overstaying.

Again, this works only for those who will leave Vietnam by August 31, 2020.

3. What is the different between Vietnam extension visa and Vietnam renewal visa?

You have an opportunity to extend your stay in Vietnam by visa extension and renewal. So what is the difference between a visa extension and renewal? Please note that visa extension or renewals belong to your current visa.
In order to apply Visa Extension or Visa Renewal, your current visa has to meet some requirements of Vietnam Immigration Department.


VISA EXTENSION	VISA RENEWAL
You will get a new visa stamp only.	You will be granted a new visa stamp and visa sticker on your passport with the new duration permission.
- Your current visa type has to be correspondent to your staying extending requirement (single to single). - You want to extend your current visa to single entry visa type (multiple to single).	Your current visa type is not correspondent to your staying extending requirement (single to multiple, multiple to multiple).
For tourist visa type: 1 month single/multiple -> 1 or 3 months single 3 months single/multiple -> 1 or 3 months single	For tourist visa type: 1 month single/multiple -> 3 months multiple 3 months single/multiple -> 3 months multiple
For business visa type 1 month single/multiple -> 1 or 3 months single 3 months single/multiple -> 1 or 3 months single 6 months multiple -> 1 or 3 months single 1 year multiple -> 1 or 3 months single	For business visa type 1 month single/multiple -> 3, 6 months or 1 year multiple 3 months single/multiple -> 3, 6 months or 1 year multiple 6 months multiple -> 3, 6 months or 1 year multiple 1 year multiple -> 3, 6 months or 1 year multiple

4. How can customer apply for Vietnam visa extension and renewal?

Step 1: Send us passport scan, Visa stamp and visa sticker and you’re staying extending requirement through Visa Vietnam. And wait for the confirmation from us
